We hope you’ll be happy to read this second issue the KFKF Info, and that it will remind you that this newsletter plans to bring you exciting news, but it is also meant as a platform for you to share information, and to promote your work and your projects.

The Kids For Kids central database reaches out to hundreds young filmmakers, media educators, creative workshops leaders the world over. So, send us your news at info@kidsforkidsfestival.org and let them know what’s happening in your part of the world.

As of today, more than 150 films from 30 countries were registered for the Kids For Kids Festival 2008. You have till June 15 to register on-line, and your submission will be accepted even if your film comes in after the deadline for entries. For on-line registration, go to www.kidsforkidsfestival.org

Finally, let us remind you that the DVD Compilation of The Best of KFKF 2007 is now ready! You can order your copy by filling out the Order form on the web site. If you wish to present this compilation in your school, your festival, or your community, please let us know and we will send you the mandatory material: background information, logos, etc.  Otherwise, check out the 2007 KFKF winners on the web site.

Nairobi (Kenya), August 4th to 9th 2008

The Nairobi-based Lola Kenya Screen, an international audiovisual media festival, production workshop and market exclusively designed for children and youth and held every year in August, is the official partner of the Global KFKF for Africa. Winner of the first KFKF Africa held during the 5th World Summit in Johannesburg (South Africa) in March 2007, Lola Kenya Screen was chosen as official partner of CIFEJ and its Global KFKF project to organize an annual KFK Festival in Africa. The second edition will take place in Nairobi on August 4th to the 9th and is open to young filmmakers from all 53 nations on the African continent.

Winning films will automatically be selected for the Official Competition of the Global KFK Festival this fall. For more information, go to:

Belgrade (Serbia), August 23rd to 25th 2008

The Serbian Media Education Center  (MEC) in Belgrade is the official partner of the Global KFKF for the Balkans region. MEC will hold the 3rd edition of the Balkan KFKF this August. If you live in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia or Turkey, hurry up, you still have time to participate and submit your film before the final deadline of June 30th and participate in this exciting event. And remember that as an affiliate event to the Global KFKF, the winners of the Balkans will automatically be selected for the Official Competition of the Global KFK Festival this fall, and you might get an invitation to attend  and  present your film!

3Rd International Youth Media Summit (Los Angeles Sydney-Belgrade):

Founded in 2006 by Ms. Evelyn Seubert from Cleveland High School USA and Ms. Aileen Marshal from South Lanarkshire Council in Scotland, the International Youth Media Summit is designed for young  students , 15 to 22 years old, represented by an established media program from a school, an arts and/or cultural non-profit and non governmental organization.

The program of the Summit is exclusively designed to provide skill and professional development as well as familiarize young participants with the Media codes and standards. It also offers a media platform for young adults to express and present the seven significant issues addressing them globally: Racism, Violence, Poverty, Youth empowerment, Women empowerment, Health, Environment. The outcomes of the Summit are Public Service Announcements (PSAs) filmed and edited by student filmmakers.

The first Summit was held in Los Angeles (USA) in 2006, the second in Sydney (Australia) in 2007, and the third will take place in Belgrade (Serbia) this coming August. And if you want to participate, you MUST fill out an application (the same goes for adults), and might need a visa to enter Serbia, check it out as soon as possible. For all our American friends, the AFI ScreenNation "Hometown Claim to Fame" Challenge is live and odds are pretty good right now that one of your students can win a Sony HD camcorder package for their 3-5 min video about what is special about their hometown. Deadline for this challenge is June 30th. As the school year winds down, consider engaging your students with one last ScreenEd project. A call for entries flier is enclosed.
