BEST FILM ANIMATION 6 – 12: THE BRAVE CAT (MEXICO)

The concept was simple and the humour was so that everyone could understand.

A universal subject and a very well made film. The drawings were beautiful and the animation was pretty smooth.

This film has a strong message: we should protect forests and wild life, and the actors were well directed.

THE SUN MIGHT SHINE TOMORROW (SWEDEN)

INTERNATIONAL PROFESSIONAL JURY

BEST FILM ANIMATION 6 – 12: HOPE THE FISH BITES (NORWAY)

This film bubbles with creativity and humour. The film makers show that they really enjoy storytelling. The jury finds this film a genuine children’s story, where their influence upon a result is total – both when it comes to the expressive animated characters and the narrative.

BEST FILM ANIMATION 13 – 16: SUPER PIG KNORRE (BELGIUM)

The prize goes to an incredibly funny and original film. It had great music and a brilliant energy, and it had the audience in stitches.

BEST FILM LIVE ACTION 6 – 12: NINE TIMES EIGHT (CANADA)

An every day story with originality and humour. The film maker opens his door to his private room but his story is nevertheless universal. Although the film maker was more in front of the camera than behind it, his personal touch is genuine and visible in all parts of the production.

BEST FILM LIVE ACTION 13 – 16: NO CHANGE GIVEN (IRELAND)

This was the hardest category to judge as the standard was so high in all the films. However the chosen one stood out because of its illuminating humour, the great acting and the simplicity of the tale.

BEST FILM 1 MINUTE 6 – 12: CHALK PAINTING (ARMENIA)

The nearly professional, artistic and joyful use of the film camera impressed the jury. It is the work of a very promising film maker

BEST FILM 1 MINUTE 13 – 16: LABYRINTH (SERBIA & MONTENEGRO)

We had a unanimous agreement in this category. It was an innovative concept pulling on an important theme. It was very artistically created with a great use of colour.

GRAND PRIZE FROM THE PROFESSIONAL JURY FOR AN OUTSTANDING FILM: ESCAPE FROM THE SALAD (UKRAINE)

This film is more than a mouthful of creative ideas. The film makers demonstrate that they know what animation is really about: making dead things come alive. The twist and turns of the story is being underlined by suitable selections of music and sounds. As viewers we completely forget the origin of the characters.
